Default Man tossed from personal watercraft trying to enter U.S. illegally

San Diego police said they picked up a Mexican man tossed off a personal watercraft driven by a man trying to smuggle him into the country Monday morning.

San Diego police Sgt. Dave Fauser said officers patrolling waters off Point Loma spotted the personal watercraft about 1 1/2 miles off the coast about 7:50 a.m. PST, U-T San Diego reported. When officers tried to stop the ski, the operator ditched the passenger into the water and sped back to the Mexican border.

Officers plucked the Mexican man from the ocean and treated him for hypothermia, the newspaper said. The man was wearing a life jacket but only a T-shirt and shorts otherwise. He told police hed fallen off the personal watercraft.

The man was turned over to border patrol officers who brought him back to the Mexican border.
